38 Special will jam at Ribs Burnoff
Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce Pro Football Hall of Fame
Enshrinement Festival announced that 38 Special will be
jamming on the Sheetz Stage on Wednesday, July 30, at the
National Ribs Burnoff at Stark County Fairgrounds. The concert is
presented in cooperation with Mix 94.1 and News Talk 1480 WHBC and
will begin approximately 8 p.m.
38 Special has the well-deserved reputation of being one of the
hardest working bands in the country, still playing more than 100
shows per year. While most associate the group with its arena-rock
‘80s pop smashes, these days the band’s harder edge and intensity is
what is immediately noticeable.
The band was formed in 1975 by neighborhood friends Don Barnes and
Donnie Van Zant in Jacksonville, Florida. By the early 1980s, the
band began incorporating into their sound elements of blues-rock and
arena-rock, kicking off a string of successful albums and singles.
Among 38 Special’s best known songs are “Caught Up In You” and “If
I’d Been the One”, both of which hit #1 on Billboard
magazine’s album rock chart, and “Second Chance”, a #1 hit on
Billboard’s adult contemporary chart. Other hit singles include
“Hold on Loosely” and “Back Where You Belong.” The current lineup
consists of guitarist and co-lead singer Don Barnes, rhythm
guitarist and co-lead singer Donnie Van Zant, guitarist Danny
Chauncey, bassist Larry Junstrom, keyboardist Bobby Capps, and
drummer Gary Moffatt.
To accommodate even more
fans at the 38 Special concert, chairs or seating of any kind
will not be permitted anywhere on the track area; it will
be free, standing room only. People wishing to have a reserved seat

beginning Thursday, June 26; phone orders will be accepted at the
Chamber beginning Friday, June 27, at 330.458.2088.
In addition to the
