PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME ENSHRINEMENT FESTIVAL DRUM CORPS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION ON AUG. 3 CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19
CANTON, OH (March 26, 2020) - The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival received word earlier today that the entire 2020 Drum Corps International (DCI) season has been cancelled due to concerns related to COVID-19. Please see the DCI release in its entirety here.
The cancellation of DCI's season means that the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival, a department of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, must cancel the 2020 Drum Corps International Competition on Aug. 3, 2020. This event, which was to be held at InfoCision Stadium in Akron, was part of DCI's Tour of Champions and the final event of the 2020 Enshrinement Festival lineup.
Here is a summary of DCI information:
- DCI’s voting membership unanimously reached the difficult decision with great regret after thorough evaluation of numerous factors affecting participant health and safety, travel requirements, logistics, venue availability, and other associated issues.
- Above all else, the entire DCI community remains unified in its commitment to preserve the health, safety, and well-being of everyone involved.
- DCI and all participating organizations will shift focus from tour preparation to addressing the sizable operational and financial challenges resulting from these extraordinary circumstances. In the coming weeks and months, DCI and the corps will work to develop the plans necessary to return to a full schedule in 2021.
"We are hugely disappointed for the talented team participants, as well as the nearly 7,500 fans who annually attend our show during the Enshrinement Festival activities. However, safety must be everyone's number one priority in this uncertain time, and we will do everything we can to help bring this fan-favorite event back stronger than ever in 2021," said Dennis Saunier, President and CEO of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival would like to express their sincere appreciation to committee chairman and vice chairman John Runion and Dick Morrow for their leadership, and to every member of the committee who has been dedicated to planning and staging this first-class event. In the words of DCI, #MarchOn.
